If you would like to take some time to explore the area Alden, Bellaire and Elk Rapids offer unique shops and great dining options.  If you are into wines, the area has an abundance of wineries and tasting rooms to check out, or if that is not your thing, the area also has many craft breweries including Short's in both Bellaire and Elk Rapids.  Want to venture further afield?  Check out the Sleeping Bear Dunes to the west or head north to Mackinaw City where you can cross the Mackinac bridge and explore some of the upper peninsula.  Or, take a ferry over to Mackinac Island and ride bikes around the island where no cars are allowed!.  Empire and Mackinaw City are just over an hour's drive in different directions.  Whatever your pleasure, this home is a great place to stay and be able to enjoy all that northern Michigan has to offer.
